Shapton sharpening stones are considered to be among the best in the world. Their previous series called Shapton Glass won the hearts of sharpening professionals around the world and is also often used in professional kitchens to sharpen and maintain the sharpness of knives. Their new product, the RockStar series, represents the same technology, but twice the size of the stone!

The RockStar series of stones are manufactured using the well-known technology of the Shapton Glass series with an increased amount of grinding part, which places these stones at the very top of the list in all aspects that are important for sharpening.

Grit #500 is a slightly coarser grit that is extremely useful when you need to sharpen a completely dull knife. If your knife does not have any edge on it, we advise you to start the sharpening process from this grain and then progress to finer ones in order to save the time you spend sharpening. 90% of the work of sharpening is establishing the edge, and the RockStar #500 will do that job perfectly for you!

If you want to achieve a really rough sharpness and "bite" of the blade, especially on softer steels, we recommend that you immediately polish the knife on the leather ceiling after this stone.

Durability: Although Shapton stones wear incomparably slower and last significantly longer than any other sharpening stone, the main complaint of users on previous series was the small thickness of the whetstone itself. The RockStar series uses the same proven recipe and the stone is twice as thick! This is exactly what guarantees the best value for your money that you can expect from the RockStar series!

Resistance to deformation: The key item when sharpening is the flat surface of the stone. In this segment, Shapton absolutely dominates when it comes to ceramic-based stones. From the Shapton RockStar series, you can expect perfect performance with minimal deformation of the stone during operation, which ultimately results in a better and longer-lasting sharpness.

Steel Cutting Speed (Abrasive Quality): Some steels can be quite challenging to machine, especially when you have an extremely dull blade made of very hard steel that needs to be sharpened. On the Shapton RockStar stone, you can process all steels with a hardness of up to 65HRC without problems, extremely efficiently, and these are almost all knives on our market!

Splash & Go technology: Unlike most other manufacturers, Shapton stones and the RockStar series are made in splash and go technology, which means that the stone does not need to be immersed in water before sharpening. It is enough to just wet the stone and you are ready for sharpening when you want it, without wasting time. You will admit very convenient!

Dimensions and weight: 210mm x 70mm x 10mm

Weight : 500g

Method of use: Place the stone on a stand or on a raised surface so that there is free space for hand movements. Shapton RockStar stones are made in "splash & go" technology, which means that they do not require pre-soaking before use, just wet it and you are ready to go. When sharpening, add water as needed.

After use, rinse the stone under cold water, do not use a sponge or washing detergent. When you have washed the stone, lay it upright so that the water flows. Do not dry the stone with a cloth, but leave it to dry naturally.

Note: the stones are fragile, so keep them from falling.

    Sharpening Japanese knives

How to choose the first Japanese knife?

If you are buying your first Japanese knife, the advice is to choose a multifunctional blade shape that will cover the widest range of your needs in the kitchen. This includes Gyuto, Santoku and Bunka. The rule is that bigger people need bigger knives and vice versa.

Japanese knife as a perfect gift

Although in the culture of the Far East it is not recommended to give a blade as a gift because of the connection with cutting off good relations, they also could not resist the perfection of such a gift, so they devised a "trick" that allows them to gift knives without problems. Just ask for one coin from the person receiving the gift and in the eyes of strict superstition spirits it will be a fair exchange. Now no joke, a knife is a gift that unlike other transient things will be remembered forever because it will serve forever.
