Sakai Takayuki is a globally renowned manufacturer of premium knives and kitchen tools. Their range of sharpening stones is a blend of tradition and innovation, providing superior performance for all types of knives.

The Sakai Takayuki #8000 grit stone is an extremely fine stone, intended for polishing the blade to a high shine and achieving the ultimate level of sharpness. After using #1000 and #4000 grit stones, this stone allows for the final finishing, providing a perfectly smooth blade that leaves a flawless cut. After this stone, additional polishing on the leather ceiling is not necessary.

We recommend using this stone exclusively for knives made from high quality steels, such as VG10, SG2, AUS10, Aogami and Shirogami, or any steel that exceeds a hardness of 60 HRC. The stone is ideal for traditional Japanese knives such as Yanagiba, Debe and Usuba, which require a high level of precision in finishing.

The texture of this stone resembles natural Japanese whetstones. Its exceptional durability ensures that it will last a lifetime, even with regular use.

For first use, soak the stone in water for 10 minutes. For each subsequent use, it is enough to wet it so that it is ready for use.

    Sharpening Japanese knives

How to choose the first Japanese knife?

If you are buying your first Japanese knife, the advice is to choose a multifunctional blade shape that will cover the widest range of your needs in the kitchen. This includes Gyuto, Santoku and Bunka. The rule is that bigger people need bigger knives and vice versa.

Japanese knife as a perfect gift

Although in the culture of the Far East it is not recommended to give a blade as a gift because of the connection with cutting off good relations, they also could not resist the perfection of such a gift, so they devised a "trick" that allows them to gift knives without problems. Just ask for one coin from the person receiving the gift and in the eyes of strict superstition spirits it will be a fair exchange. Now no joke, a knife is a gift that unlike other transient things will be remembered forever because it will serve forever.
