Sakai Takayuki is a well-known blade manufacturer in Japan. In addition to knives, through various collaborations, they also produce other products related to kitchen and other knives. Among them is this series of sharpening stones.

Takayuki stones are designed to meet the needs of hobbyists and professional sharpeners alike. Each stone is made specifically for its purpose, so the thickness, composition and dimensions are in perfect harmony with the task it has to perform. Because Takayuki sources the abrasives for making these stones directly from the manufacturer, the price of their stones is slightly more favorable considering the superior quality. Also, precisely because of the mentioned quality, these stones can sharpen any knife, from the softest to the hardest steel.

The 1000 granulation stone is a medium fine stone, on which we already achieve exceptional sharpness results. If you are sharpening knives made of softer steel, such as German ones, you can finish the sharpening process on this grain and then polish the blade on the leather ceiling. For harder, Japanese steels, this is a transitional stone used as an intermediate stage before fine polishing stones like #4000 or #8000.

We recommend that you use this stone when the knife you need to sharpen is not absolutely dull or damaged, otherwise it will take you a little longer to achieve results as this stone is quite fine textured and is intended for regular sharpening.

Dimensions: 30x65x207mm

Stone weight: 880g

Before use, this stone should be soaked in water for 5-10 minutes. After the bubbles stop coming out of the stone, it is ready for use.

    Sharpening Japanese knives

How to choose the first Japanese knife?

If you are buying your first Japanese knife, the advice is to choose a multifunctional blade shape that will cover the widest range of your needs in the kitchen. This includes Gyuto, Santoku and Bunka. The rule is that bigger people need bigger knives and vice versa.

Japanese knife as a perfect gift

Although in the culture of the Far East it is not recommended to give a blade as a gift because of the connection with cutting off good relations, they also could not resist the perfection of such a gift, so they devised a "trick" that allows them to gift knives without problems. Just ask for one coin from the person receiving the gift and in the eyes of strict superstition spirits it will be a fair exchange. Now no joke, a knife is a gift that unlike other transient things will be remembered forever because it will serve forever.
