Diamond is the hardest material in the world, and it also has abrasive power when properly shaped. Atoma diamond stones are made by electro-welding laboratory-produced diamonds to a steel plate, ensuring that they are properly positioned and stay in place. This technology is widely used in the stone cutting business, but recently it has also been widely used in the knife sharpening business.
Grit #600 Diamond Stone Atom is considered medium to fine grit. It is primarily used for establishing the edge on slightly dull knives as well as for achieving the final sharpness if you want your knife to have a strong "bite" when in contact with food. If you want to sharpen shorter blades like those on folding, hunting and similar knives, this stone is the right choice for you.
In addition to sharpening, the most important role of the Atom diamond stone is to straighten other sharpening stones, we recommend that you use this stone to straighten other #1000 and higher grit stones. Due to the technology itself, the Atom is impossible to deform and it always remains absolutely straight, making it ideal for straightening ceramic sharpening stones. As with steel, the sharp edges of the diamond cut the ceramic stone with ease, conveying the flatness of the Atom, leaving a perfect sharpening surface.
Atoma diamond stones are produced by the renowned Japanese abrasive manufacturer Tsuboman. Top quality mono-crystalline diamonds are first welded to a stainless steel plate which is then mounted on a second, 10mm thick aluminum plate which is machined to be absolutely flat. This construction ensures that the Atoma will not deform even a little over time and gives the product massiveness and ease of use.

How to use for sharpening knives: When you want to sharpen a knife at atom, it is extremely important to use the right technique to ensure that this product serves you adequately and for a long time. First place the atom in a stone holder or other secured non-slip surface. Then place the blade of the knife against the surface of the stone and move the blade over the surface of the stone very gently, almost without pressure. Let the diamonds do the work for you. You can use any technique, but it is very important to use as little pressure as possible, otherwise the diamonds may fall off the plate and permanently slow down your Atom. We recommend that you use the entire surface of the stone evenly.
How to use it for straightening stones: Atoma is the perfect tool for straightening other stones and using it for this purpose is extremely simple. If necessary before straightening, soak your stone in water for about 10 minutes as you would before sharpening. Splash&Go stones do not need to be submerged. Then place the stone on the sharpening holder and place the Atom over it so that the diamonds are facing the stone. Rub the Atoma on the stone with light up and down movements, without much pressure, and in just a few seconds your stone will be absolutely flat again. For leveling work, we recommend Atoma grit #120 or #400.
