The Mcustin Friction Folder knife is inspired by the traditional Japanese Higonokami (肥後守) knife – a type of folding knife that has a Chikiri (thumb lever) that allows for easy opening of the blade and prevents it from accidentally closing during use.

The blade is made using the San Mai technique, with a VG10 core, while the wavy lamination line deliberately imitates the famous Hamon of traditional katanas. The smooth opening mechanism works with the so-called "slip joint" system, with an additional ball bearing that keeps the blade stable in the open and closed position (without locking).

MCUSTA is proud to create a modern version of the traditional Higonokami knife for the 21st century. The Japanese Higo style, now improved, allows for easy one-handed opening by simply using your thumb on the front blade extension.

The knife has a modern designed handle made of laminated red-black hardwood. It comes in an elegant premium case made of Japanese hand-embroidered Nishijin brocade cloth.

Exclusive gift: Ideal for collectors, lovers of Japanese culture and those who appreciate a high-end tool with history and character.

How to choose the first Japanese knife?

If you are buying your first Japanese knife, the advice is to choose a multifunctional blade shape that will cover the widest range of your needs in the kitchen. This includes Gyuto, Santoku and Bunka. The rule is that bigger people need bigger knives and vice versa.

Japanese knife as a perfect gift

Although in the culture of the Far East it is not recommended to give a blade as a gift because of the connection with cutting off good relations, they also could not resist the perfection of such a gift, so they devised a "trick" that allows them to gift knives without problems. Just ask for one coin from the person receiving the gift and in the eyes of strict superstition spirits it will be a fair exchange. Now no joke, a knife is a gift that unlike other transient things will be remembered forever because it will serve forever.
